Ways To Get Involved
​Museum Tour Guide (Docent)
Be a storyteller of the sea! Docents lead guests of all ages through our galleries, introducing them to world-class maritime art and ship models while sharing the Museum’s history and upcoming events.
No previous museum experience is needed, just enthusiasm and curiosity! We provide the training.

Education
Help ignite young imaginations! Work with small groups of students and introduce them to maritime life using our art and exhibits. If you enjoy working with kids or schools, this is a rewarding and joyful way to volunteer.
Events
Help make our signature events shine! From exhibition openings to the CIMM Speaker Series, Celebration of the Whales and Chowderfest, event volunteers assist with every stage of our events from planning to set-up to take-down and everything in between. Come be part of the celebration!

Front Desk & CIMM Giftshop
Be the friendly face that makes every guest feel welcome! Visitor Services volunteers greet guests, handle admission, assist with memberships and support sales in the Museum giftshop. Hands-on training is provided, all you need is a smile.
Heave-ho Crew - Maintenance & Museum Operations
Have experience with painting, gardening or like to fix things? Join our Heave-ho Crew! Volunteers help with facility improvements, outdoor upkeep, hangs our holiday/seasonal decorations and assists with exhibit space upgrades. Perfect for those who like tools and teamwork!
Museum Technical Support
Tech-savvy? Help maintain our servers, point of sale system and electronic equipment. This behind-the-scenes role keeps our digital infrastructure running smoothly.
Administrative/Office Support
If organization is your superpower, we need you! Assist with membership processing, data entry, mailings, filing, and helping receive Museum Store merchandise.
Curatorial Support
If you’ve ever wondered what goes into creating a museum exhibit, this is your chance to be part of the process! Curatorial volunteers work closely with staff to prepare and care for the art and artifacts on display. Tasks may include helping install or remove exhibits, unpacking or packing historical pieces, maintaining gallery spaces and assisting with collections documentation and organization. It’s a fascinating behind-the-scenes role for detail-oriented volunteers who enjoy hands-on work with history.​​
