The 6th Annual Chowderfest at the Channel Islands Maritime Museum drew a sold-out crowd to the harbor this past Sunday for an afternoon of sunshine, live music, chowder sampling and waterfront charm. Guests also enjoyed live music by the Ray Jaurique Trio, museum tours and harbor cruises making it a full day of community celebration.
The main attraction, however, was the competition. After hours of tasting and voting, winners were announced to enthusiastic applause:
Best Chowder: Sea Fresh Channel Islands, with their New England Clam Chowder
Most Unique Chowder: Portola Italian Kitchen, with their Cioppino
People’s Choice Favorite: Tie between Boatyard Pub & Sea Fresh, both with New England Clam Chowders

Team Spirit: Rescue Mission Alliance Culinary Program, with their New England Clam Chowder

Thirteen local restaurants brought their best recipes to the table, from timeless takes on New England-style clam chowder to Moqueca (Brazilian Fish Stew) & Cioppino. Attendees cast ballots alongside a panel of judges, making the awards a true community choice.
“Chowderfest is such a wonderful reminder of how food brings people together,” said Doug Riffenburgh, Executive Director of the Museum. “From the creativity of these local chefs to the enthusiasm of the community, this event truly captures the heart and soul of our maritime community.”
Beyond great food, Chowderfest supports a great cause: proceeds benefit the Channel Islands Maritime Museum, helping preserve maritime history, promote the arts and fund future educational programs.
