CIMM EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR SCHOOLS

The museum offers a wide range of tours within the Education Program for students in grades 3-12. Students will be actively engaged with various exhibits in the museum. Specific activities are designed for students of different ages to explore maritime history and culture at a level that is meaningful to them, creating the ultimate museum experience.

CIMM's enriching field trips contribute to students’ appreciation of art and culture, engage their critical thinking skills, increase their historical empathy, and develop a life-long interest in the arts. The program is open to all schools and home school groups. Our education modules help teachers fulfill educational requirements with interactive, experiential lessons that can be built upon in the classroom before and after the field trip. Pre-field trip activities will help build background on the topics they will explore are available for teachers and parents to download. 

MARITIME EXPLORATIONS THROUGH TIME AND SPACE

A program for grades 4- 6.

Students enjoy a time travel experience that takes them back 400+ years to many places around the globe! Students will be challenged with activities incorporating:

  • Geography

  • Mathematics

  • Critical Thinking

  • Artistic Endeavors

MIDDLE/JUNIOR/HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMS

Students will be captivated by a docent/naturalist talk about the different types of whales that travel the California coast.
CIMM is proud to present a new program for students in middle school and high school, focusing on the Port of Hueneme and local maritime history. This program runs approximately 2 hours 15 minutes accommodates a minimum of 8 students and 2 adults, maximum of 40 students.

SUMMER EDUCATION PROGRAM

Channel Islands Maritime Museum continues to offer educational programs throughout the summer for school-age students in grades 3-12 who are attending summer camps or other youth groups or for families. Multi-age groups can be accommodated, although every attempt should be made to group students so that they can enjoy age-appropriate activities together.

MARITIME ADVENTURES

Channel Islands Maritime Museum offers Maritime Adventure Tours for small classes or multi-age groups. Maritime Adventures are a good choice for a home school group or after-school program.  These interactive tours are 90 minutes long and consist of 3 activities appropriate to the ages of your students. Each tour is custom-designed to meet the needs and interests of your group.  Activities at the museum are intended for school-age children in grades 3-12 and their families. The maximum age range within a tour of a mixed group is 3 years or grade levels.

AFTER SCHOOL FIELD TRIPS

Channel Islands Maritime Museum offers Educational Tours for After School groups by appointment for students in grades 3-12. Multi-age groups can be accommodated, although every attempt should be made to group students so that they can enjoy age-appropriate activities together. A range of ages of up to 3 grades can be accommodated – This program accommodates a minimum of 8 students and 2 adults, a maximum of 40 students. 
The docent-led interactive tours are 90 minutes long and consist of 3 activities appropriate to the ages of your students. Each tour is custom-designed to meet the needs and interests of your group.
