Lively and Informative Programs

The Museum's education programs are designed to complement the California State Board of Education History/Social Science Content Standards. Instead of a lecture on maritime history, we bring lively presentations to the floor of the museum while viewing key artifacts augmented with maps, charts, pictures, and relevant items that students can touch and feel. Each program concludes with a "Search and Find" quiz and a question and answer period designed to review what has been learned.

The programs in the museum have four unique presentations by four museum docents. Before entering the museum, classes are organized into four groups, and each group is assigned to one of the docents. Presentations take approximately 12 minutes, a ship's bell is rung, and the class groups move to a different docent. After students have listened to all four presentations the "Search and Find" period begins.
